Instrument Adjustments: Arthrostim Tool

One of the benefits of receiving Chiropractic Care is the number of options for treatment. In addition to the chiropractic adjustment, other well-loved treatment types include spinal manipulation, soft tissue mobilization, and myofascial methods of care such as the Active Release Technique. There are also many others such as the Graston technique, and use of an Arthrostim tool.

The Chiropractic toolkit is vast and involves a range of approaches to care to match your condition, temperament and sensitivity.

The Arthrostim tool in particular can be a great way to alleviate tension and increase mobility in your body.

What is the Arthrostim Tool?

The Arthrostim is a handheld tool used by chiropractors to aid them in performing adjustments. It operates on the low Beta Somata Motor Neuron level, of about 12-14 beats or thrusts per second, a frequency that is recognizable by the brain and nervous system. Due to its speed, the Arthrostim is much stronger and faster than a single adjustment offered by a chiropractor. By taking that energy and dividing it into rapid pulses one after another, it provides a comfortable yet effective way to receive an adjustment.

The chiropractor has access to a series of attachments that modify the connection point quality between the Arthrostim and your body. You can think of it in a similar way to how a massage therapist can change their hand position to modify pressure or surface area contact.

How does the Arthrostim tool work?

One way to think about the Arthrostim is to think about it providing a “neurological assist” to an adjustment since it vibrates at a speed that your nervous system recognizes. In doing so, it allows information to be sent to the brain and nervous system which means it may allow for an adjustment to hold for longer than without the Arthrostim tool.  The Arthrostim tool also allows for an adjustment to occur through all ranges of motion — something that isn’t always possible through the use of hands alone. It can be used on the body is a passive or active state – so while you’re staying still or moving.

The Arthrostim has several add-on attachments that can offer localized and consistent release to various points on your body. In doing so, it can increase recovery speed and return you to an optimized range of motion.

Is the Arthrostim Tool gentle?

The Arthrostim tool emits a gentle buzzing sound, and pressure is applied at your Chiropractor’s discretion. As a result, the tool cannot work outside of what your Chiropractor believes is suitable for you. It provides variable pressure, so there’s no need to worry. The frequency is also intended to have a soothing effect on the nervous system.
