Backs in Action owner/director Dr. Farrah Jiwa believes in a holistic approach to health. She came to believe in this approach when a family member, her sister, was involved in a serious car accident.

Dr. Farrah had graduated with a Bachelors of Science in Biopsychology from the University of British Columbia when the accident occurred. Throughout university, she had always been interested in health care, due to her desire to help others. Following the accident, Dr. Farrah became aware that the typical medical paradigm wasn’t helping. A family friend suggested Chiropractic for her sister, who was in chronic pain at the time. After several weeks of undergoing Chiropractic treatment, her sister was able to return to school and return to a normal life.

Upon seeing these results, Dr. Farrah realized that greater mental and physical balance could be achieved through alignment of the spine. She found herself drawn to Chiropractic care, not only to help with injuries and pain but also to improve the lives of otherwise healthy people. In 1996 she enrolled at the Canadian Memorial Chiropractic College in Toronto and, four years later, emerged with a Doctor of Chiropractic degree.

Shortly after, Dr. Farrah began working part time at the Fraser Chiropractic Group, where she was mentored by Randy and Ray Zindler, a father-son team with decades of Chiropractic experience. She also established Backs in Action at that time, and began building it into the respected clinic it is today, with diversified techniques, Functional Muscle Testing, Kinesthetic Release, computerized GaitScan Analysis and Custom Orthotics among its many services and treatments.

Dr. Farrah strongly believes in meritocracy and offering the best in Chiropractic care. As such, she values continuing education and professional growth and development. In 2006 she earned a Masters in Business Administration from the Richard Ivey Business School at the University of Western Ontario. She has also taken numerous courses in Radiology, Lumbar Rehabilitation and Stabilization, GaitScan and Postural Analysis and Exercise Rehab.

Dr. Farrah continues to develop her practice, and keeps up-to-date with all the latest developments and advances in chiropractic medicine. Her most recent certification is in Kinesio Taping, which is the process of using therapeutic tape to enhance and ensure stability to joints and muscles without affecting circulation and range of motion.

A Vancouver resident all her life and a mom with twin daughters herself, Farrah says, “I love being able to help young families, from kids to adults.”

“Wellness is for people of all ages,” she says. With Backs in Action, she has established a practice that reflects her holistic approach to health and wellness. Health is a lifelong journey, and she is excited to help everyone she meets along the path to a better life.
