What is Compression Hosiery?

sigvaris2

Gradient Compression Hosiery Therapy or compression socks, stockings and panty hose are medically necessary to improve venous and lymphatic blood circulation.

We use Sigvaris Compression Hosiery as well as Bauerfeind Compression Hosiery products. Sigvaris and Bauerfeind have been the leaders in manufacturing compression products in Canada and Europe. All of their products are quality inspected, ensuring superior garments that are soft, cool, and comfortable to wear all day. Recently they have been revolutionizing their products by introducing popular colors, modern styles and advanced technologies.

Background Info

Blood circulates in the body due to the pumping of the heart via veins and arteries. Arteries carry nutrient and oxygen-rich blood to the body tissue and veins carry deoxygenated blood back to the heart.

In a healthy vein when blood pumps, venous valves open and allow blood to flow towards the heart and then close to prevent blood from flowing back down. In an unhealthy vein, valves can’t close properly because they are weak. This lets blood flow back down due to gravity. Therafirm compression socks products deliver a controlled amount of pressure which is greatest at the ankle of the garment and decreases towards the top. This gradient compression combats gravity and allows better venous blood flow controlling swelling, varicosities (such as varicose veins) and other leg conditions.
