What is Plantar Fasciitis?

  • Inflammation of the plantar fascia which is a band of connective tissue from your heel bone to your toes.
  • Your plantar fascia supports the arch of your foot.
  • Fascia is like saran wrap over your muscles/ligamentso   When the fascia is inflamed, it causes heel pain

 

Causes of Plantar Fasciitis?

  • Overpronation: Feet roll inward when walking
  • Tight Calf Muscles
  • Tight Achilles Tendons: Ligaments/Tendons that attach to the back of the heel become taut/tight

Symptoms of Plantar Fasciitis?

  • Heel pain: “Burning Sensation” with the first few steps of getting out of bed
  • Heel pain when standing for long periods of time
  • Pain when walking up stairs or standing on your toes
  • Pain when stretching the fascia/calf muscles: Pulling on the “saran wrap”

Treatment for Plantar Fasciitis?

o   Reduces stress on plantar fascia and supports the arch of your foot

o   Stretches the foot’s plantar fascia releasing tension

o   Fascial Stripping and Cross Friction Massage to release fascial adhesions

  • Roll a tennis ball or a frozen water bottle back and forth under your foot
