Epsom Salt Water Therapy

At Backs in Action we recommend our patients to take a bath to improve circulation and extend the benefits of their treatment. There are many different types of baths you can take, whether it be for injury treatment, relaxation or to reduce inflammation.

Part one focuses on Contrast/Hot-Cold Immersion Therapy and part two of this blog series focuses on Epsom Salt Water Bath Therapy!

Epsom Salt Water Bath

  • Epsom Salt is also known as Magnesium Sulfate

Benefits

  • Magnesium
    • Replenishes the body’s magnesium levels
    • Helps with reducing inflammation
  • Sulfate
    • Flushes toxins out of the body
  • Relaxation
  • Relieves muscle aches and pain

How to make a Epsom Salt Water Bath

  • Fill a bath with warm water
    • Warm water is ideal for letting the Epsom salt dissolve into your skin
  • Add a cup of Epsom salts into the water and let them dissolve
    • If you don’t dissolve the salts, they may dry on your skin as a white powder
      • It is harmless and can be rinsed off
    • Soak in the bath for 12-15 minutes
      • You can do this 3 times per week
    • Make sure to drink at least 1 glass of water after your bath, as the flushing of the toxins is taxing on the body

Contraindications

  • Epsom salt water baths are not recommended for people with heart problems or high blood pressure
